J is for Jobs

Image
Here I am in 1995 off to start my very first day at work.  It was not long before Christmas and in fact was the same day that the very first National Lottery was drawn in the UK.   The job was a temporary Saturday job, just for a few weeks with the last day being before Christmas day, working in the restaurant in Alders department store. I remember coming home and checking the lottery ticket I'd brought at lunchtime and hoping I would win and not have to do that 'work' thing again! I was quite late in getting a Saturday job compared to some of my friends, due to the fact I was very lucky and managed often sweet talk my parents into giving me the odd fiver here and there and I didn't want to miss out on the fun I had each Saturday playing lacrosse *ahem* . On the first day, within a few hours of starting I managed to crash a whole trolley full of dirty plates and cutlery as I took them back to the kitchen, smashing everything dramatically over the floor ...

Reasons to be Cheerful 1,2,3

The last few weeks I've not been able to cobble together a post to take part in Michelle's Reason's to be Cheerful linky, in fact I may have struggled to fill a 140 character tweet on the subject!  I decided last week that I would take a leaf out of Michelle's book though and find things to be cheerful about even when it appears there are none... but then... I got a job!    Not only did I get a job, I got a good job!    After Aaron lost his job back in August  I started looking for work, the plan had always been for me to do something (had no idea what, I was looking for a flash of inspiration!) but once Leo was in nursery, and we had to wait until we had the cash available to send him - catch 22 I believe!   As we were both out of work I was now looking for anything at all, but it's very hard. It is the end of the season so many people are now out of work for the winter so the wrong time of year for job hunting. I've ...

Always look on the bright side of life....

Some things in life are bad They can really make you mad Other things just make you swear and curse. When you're chewing on life's gristle Don't grumble, give a whistle And this'll help things turn out for the best... I am married to possibly the most optimistic man of all time, many times during our relationship we have been in varying degrees of the brown and smelly stuff and each time I've worried or panicked about it he has assured me it will be fine. This includes the time we sat on a park bench debating our future, with a 10 week old baby, no-where to live in the UK, no income in the UK as he was self employed and had lost a big contract and a mortgage that we had to pay in a country we had only spent just over 2 weeks in. We had had a plan, and this was not it! We came to the conclusion that we were more stuffed than ever before, I laughed (in a slightly manic hysterical way) and Aaron said... "Trust me, it'll all be fine"   (it was, we suddenl...

All settled now (pretty much!)

We are here! In fact we've been here nearly 2 months already, although in many ways it seems like we've been here forever - I assume that is a good sign! It's been so long since my last post that I don't really know where to start, there's lots of things that won't be nearly as interesting to write about 2 months after but the biggest thing is Aaron getting a job :) He's got a very good job for Cyprus, and unusualy for here has managed to do the same thing he did before. It's Kitchen desiging for a large property developers in Limmasol which is just over an hour away but the drive actually takes less time than it took him to get to East London, even though that was half the distance! We have settled very well into our apartment, everything was unpacked within 2 days and we (I say we, I mean Aaron really!) spent the next couple of weeks putting up pictures/mirrors/furniture. I then spent the next month rearranging the kitchen cupboards, and...
