Frequently asked questions

Image
These days it seems that every web site has it's FAQ's (Frequently Asked Questions) and sometimes they have just the answer you were looking for. Sometime you wonder why anyone would ask some of them at all, let alone for them to be asked frequently!   That said they are a great idea, after all it gets a bit dull keep repeating the same answers time and time again. So, I give you 'Emma's FAQs'... Why did you move to Cyprus? Honestly, I don't know!  My standard response is 'Why not?'  or 'It seemed like a good idea at the time' and I've said that so many times I can't even come up with a reason that sounds good enough to move across the world.  That's not to say I regret it at all, it's just looking back I can't believe we had the balls!   We didn't really know much about the country when we brought so I think it was pretty much to do with the weather! When are you coming home? We are home. This is where we live, we...

Lady in Red (and white)

One of this weeks Writing workshop prompts is Red - something this colour inspires in you.  If you saw my recent Gallery entry for the same prompt you will already know what this colour means to me. 20th August 2004 6.30am.  I woke up in the spare room at my parents house and thought 'wow I'm getting married today.... ' I managed a little more sleep, conscious of the fact it was probably going to be  long day. My bridesmaid Sarah  and I went to the shop for a chance to smoke so early in the morning without my Mum telling me of f for breakfast supplies. Dad was in charge of bacon rolls while the rest of us decided on a plan for use of the bathroom! The hairdresser was late, so late I was getting a bit concerned, I rang and she had the wrong address. I was hugely worried I'd have to wear my hair down but she made it in the end. Apart from that the morning had been very peaceful, I was calm but very excited, Sarah on the other hand was terrified! Th...

All things come to those who wait

For as long as I can remember I have been told that "All good things come to those who wait" Do they, or should you get off your backside and go and get them yourself? Looking back over my life so far I have spent a depressing amount of time waiting for something or other. I don't mean buses, or delivery men, although I've done that too! I mean waiting for something to get better or something to happen. It's been various things over the years, as a child I was waiting for birthdays or Christmas or to be old enough to do different things. As I got older I was waiting to find a boyfriend, a better job, to get married and have a baby. I waited for exciting things to happen, like a good night out or a holiday., to live in a better house, I think I was waiting for everything to be "just right" I don't think I always realised I was waiting but I'm sure I've always had the feeling that something wasn't quite right, like I was sure somet...

Writing Workshop

After several weeks of reading posts for the Writing Workshop I thought I'd give it a go. I chose the prompt Storm.  It's a bit of a cheat as I did write this some time ago..... Bang goes the gate,  There goes the crate, flying down the lane. Crash, Smash, Oh No! Now it's the window pane. Lying in bed listening to the horrible wind, the horrible whistling wooshing wind,  The wind that damages everything.  Clang goes the dustbin lid against the trees,  it's not just a normal little breeze. The trees fall down like a domino rally,  and the whistling wind down the alley. The howling wind goes on all night,  and then, Oh no! Out goes the light. The banging and clanging soon will stop,  and everyone will have a busy job. The moaning, groaning horrible wind, that rips of tiles and everything. The howling wind goes on all night, it's enough to give everyone a fright. Crash, smash, a tree lands on my house,  I...
