Girls Day Out - Part 2 Abandoned Theme Park and a Dry River bed

Image
Our girls day out for Sam's birthday was a surprise for  her but was also a mystery road trip for me in some ways.  It has all been organised by our friend Lucy and I'd not seen her before the day to hear about any of the plans so it was great just jumping in the car and having nothing to do with the organising - not something I am used to!  You can read about the first part of the day in my earlier post - Girls Day Out. For lunch we stopped at a lovely forest picnic site in the village of Mosfiloti called the Agia Thekla Excursion Area,  it was well equipped with toilets, bbq areas, lots of benches and a play area and even wheelchair access and benches designated accessible, which is very good for Cyprus, apparently according to the website there is also photovoltaic cell systems to provide lighting at night but we weren't there that long to find out.  We didn't explore much of the area, in fact we just headed to a bench and started eating - moving once as the ...

Girls day out

Image
In July I had a great day out with the girls, this time a birthday present for Sam, in fact it was a present from Lucy but Rachel and I got to tag along too so it was a bonus for us!  It was great to have a day out that I had no part in arranging at all.  I had a vague idea of one of the places we were to stop at but the rest was just as much of a mystery to me as it was to Sam.    First stop was just off the Larna ca - Limassol highway just before the village of Klavdia to see the wind turbines.  This is something that Sam has wanted to do for ages and she was absurdly excited about it.   I do admit it was pretty cool though, and not something I would have ever even considered doing so it was great.  The turbines are really difficult to get a photo of, especially to demonstrate just how big they are.  Below you can see Sam standing at the base of one.  Next stop, Panagia Stazousa ,  a medieval monastery in the village of Klavdia ...

A surprise Hen weekend - #BatcherlorEverAfter

Image
Time for a flashback post.  It was a weekend that wasn't all that long ago yet seems like a lifetime in many ways,  a weekend that had been planned for many months before hand that was supposed the be the start of a series of events.   Unfortunately that weekend was back at the start of March and no-one expected how the year was going to play out after that.    Last November you may have read my post on the fact that two of our best friends were getting married and I was to be a bridesmaid . The wedding was due to be on 23rd May this year and I had arranged several Hen celebrations leading up to it.  Of course the wedding had to be postponed due to the pandemic, which I am gutted about and it's not even my wedding so I can't even imagine how they feel.  We had our weekend away just before the world as we knew it changed, something that I am very grateful for at least.  Once we were in lock down I actually couldn't look at the photos at first ...

Flashback Friday - Friendship

Image
This week I dedicate my Flashback Friday post to Claire, one of my best friends. She has been out to see me for a week and goes home today. I met Claire at secondary school in 1990, we had a few lessons together, the most memorable being French where we used to sit looking out the window at a little red car that we wanted to have when we were older. It was in French lessons that we came up with the plan - we wanted to get married at 23, and then have a baby at 25. 1992 On our 23rd birthday, we realised that this was the year we were supposed to get married, according to the plan. We amended it, decided that 25 would be a better age with 27 for baby's arrival. Two years later (I was single, she probably should have been!) We pledged to no longer make plans! Our birthday's are one day apart, and Claire is older than me :) One year when we were young enough to be happy at turning a year older she gloated that she would reach it before me, I told her that in years t...

The Gallery - Show me the funny

Image
This weeks Gallery was very tricky, yes I do realise I often say that but the problem this week was slightly different. You see the prompt was "Show me the funny" as usual I have a whole host of photos I could use, and a hundred funny stories to go with them.  When you have been to the amount of adult only Butlins weekends as we have and held as many parties with our mad bunch of friends it's inevitable really. My favourite is a friend of our dancing in his boxer shorts at a fancy dress party we had, holding a bottle of champagne in one hand. I also have a whole series of photos taken over a couple of years of a friend posing with cleaning cones - it turned into a tradition every time we went away! I could go on and on. The reason I haven't used them is the fact that although I may be in a different country now but I think those involved may jump on a plane and come and slap me round the head. Instead I give you.... These were taken back in March wh...

The Gallery - Here Come the Girls

Image
This week's Gallery prompt is Here Come the Girls . This would normally be a hard one for me as I've got lots of girls  in my life that are very important to me and hundreds of photos from which I could never choose from. However yesterday one of my very best friends went back to the UK after staying with me for a whole month so it seemed apt to use these photos. We met at secondary school, went to college together, worked together after dropping out of college and have been friends ever since. We were drinking partners, still are but apparently can't quite handle it as well these days! We have both got married (were each other's Bridesmaids) and now both have gorgeous baby boys. It's such a shame that we can no longer spend as much time together as our boys would be very close friends (Well, we'd hope so!)  On holiday in Kavos, 1995 No idea what we were doing but it looks a bit suspicious.   Gran Canaria 1996 ...
